La Pedrera 2 LBMV

This is the final submission for LBMV 3.1. I ended up redrawing the original designs. Thanks to everyone who provided feedback. Those are the commercial counterparts to my original designs [link] . I actually love both versions. It will be interesting to hear which one you prefer.


Challenge:

This challenge involves designing a day look and a night look, inspired by a building/architecture. The looks have to be structured and include multiple pieces.


Inspiration:
----------------
The inspiration was a residential building in Barcelona called La Pedrera, designed by Gaudi: [link]
In particular, I was inspired by the unusual balconies, which have beautiful ironwork and caged glass floors: [link] and [link]

My Designs:

The Day Look:
The Day Look includes a beige knitted one-shoulder vest with teal leather appliqué, gray heavy cotton patterned pants,and teal sheer organza shirt with architected sleeves. There is a wavy silver leather sash at the waist. The leather details mimic the intricate ironwork of the building, while the sleeves reflect the silhouette of the architecture.

The Night Look:
The Night Look is a sheer gray organza sparkle dress with assymetrical neckline. it has a built-in teal leather corset at the waist, with leather design cutouts. Thin, vertical leather trim along the dress adds structure. The ironwork is echoed in the ornate leather design on the right shoulder.

Colours and Themes:
----------------------------
A common element in both designs is the use of leather to give structure and weight to the garment. In addition, the patterns and details on both designs are inspired by the sculpted ironwork of the building. Grayish-teal is the common colour in both designs.

"She is particularly adept at marker illustration, which is a (difficult but) prominent medium in fashion illustration. She put a lot of detail and work into the looks and fashion; her pieces are approaching couture level. Though her looks never reached "cluttered", the shapes and prints coexist together in an admirably complex manner."
